Exploring Ibiza by sea
As a long term sailing expert, Cas Gasiowner Luis Trigueros – who met his wife Margaret von Korff when starting the project for the famous Whitbred Round The World Race 85/86 – knows the Balearic Sea like the back of his hand. The couple like to take their sailboat out at least once a week throughout summer, so when Cas Gasi guests are looking for tips on where to go when hiring a yacht charter, they know exactly who to ask!
In Ibiza, Luis and Margaret love to sail to Porroig, on the island’s south coast, where the sense of tranquillity is in total contrast to its famous neighbour of Cala Jondal. Another stop on an island tour is the amazing Cala Aubarca, where the impressive cliff faces are a view unlike anything you can see from dry land – truly spectacular. The mystical, magnetic limestone rock formation of Es Vedra is also another favourite – and unlike other superstitious boat captains, Luis isn’t afraid to sail between her and sister island Es Vedranell.
Of course, Formentera is always a popular choice, and Margaret and Luis like to make a pit stop on the way at S’Espalmador, a privately owned island. “It’s a bit of an adventure,” says Margaret. “We anchor up, take a swim and then we take our dog to shore and our ritual is to trek past the mud baths, cross through the bushes and then all of the sudden, as if you were in the Amazon, you appear on a hidden beach: Sa Torreta – a tiny little bay where the Ibicenco sailors take their boats for the day. There are no bars, it’s totally unspoilt, rustic and quiet.”
