There are times on holiday when you just want to hang out and do a whole lot of nothing much at all. Then there are those days when it’s all about exploring. Santa Gertrudis
This quaint village is the cosmopolitan heart of Ibiza. The wide plaza is circled by cafes and crowned by the white washed church. Cas Gasi owner, Margaret von Korff walks there every morning with her faithful dog Viz. “I take coffee in a different cafe every morning and I love observing all the people, the goings on of the village,” she says. Of course, one must stop by Casi Todo, the local auction house, to see what treasures they might have for the next auction date. With its bohemian vibe, Santa Gertrudis is a lovely spot to while away an afternoon.

San Rafael
To the other side of Cas Gasi is a village known as the artisanal centre of Ibiza. Here you will find several working ceramics studios creating traditional earthenware. San Rafael is the crossroads between the two main towns of San Antonio and Ibiza. Here local people meet for coffee to talk about the latest news and gossip before setting off on various errands. The church in San Rafael is still one of the island’s favourites.

San Mateo
This cute-as-a-button village has a tiny rural school, a church, a bar, two restaurants and a whole lot of atmosphere. It doesn’t take much imagination to picture what life would have been like here hundreds of years ago. Surrounded by fields of fruit trees and vineyards, Sant Mateo hosts a yearly wine festival where local vintners bring their wares to town and serve up glasses of the good stuff accompanied by delicious tapas.
